OUR STORY
Sports Circle was born from a simple observation. On a trip overseas, two Wanaka families stumbled across a consignment ski shop and had one of those "why doesn't this exist at home?" moments.
Back in New Zealand, buying second-hand sports gear meant scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, arranging awkward meetups, and hoping the sizing was right. Selling meant fielding endless ridiculous questions on Messenger, meaning quality gear sat unused in garages, and perfectly good jackets, bikes, and skis were being discarded because they were out-of-date.
For visitors to Wanaka, rental costs were adding up every season, and many great activities in the region such as overnight tramps and lake swims were limited due to gear availability and luggage practicalities.
They came home to Wanaka and got to work. Within a few months, Sports Circle opened its doors — built on the belief that sport should be accessible to everyone, and that good gear deserves more than one life.
Better than renting
If you're visiting Wanaka, renting gear may seem like the obvious choice — but it's not always the best one.
At Sports Circle, you can buy quality second-hand gear, use it during your trip, and sell it back before you leave. For longer stays or repeat visitors, the numbers make even more sense.

How it works
Consigning your gear with Sports Circle is straightforward:
- Drop off your gear in good working condition
- We photograph, price, and list it — in-store and online
- When it sells, you're notified by email — store credit is available immediately, cash payouts run every Monday, a week after the sale
- Unsold gear can be donated or collected — your choice
Consignor payouts range from 50–70% of the sale price in cash, or 60–84% as store credit. The higher the sale price, the higher your share.

We stock a wide range of second-hand sports equipment including:
- Snow sports — skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, jackets, base layers, helmets

All items are checked for quality before listing. We don't accept damaged gear, worn-out clothing, or safety-critical equipment such as helmets and ropes.
